What is a doula?

A doula is a friend, a neighbor or a member of your family that comes to help care

for you after the birth of a child. The first few weeks after the birth of your newborn

can be a very trying period for you and your family. Having the emotional

and educational support of a doula can make this a much more enjoyable

and rewarding transitional experience for you. A postpartum doula

provides breastfeeding support, emotional support, infant care and advice, sibling

care and informational and educational resources to the new mother and her

family after the birth of her newborn. With my support and guidance you will

develop an ideal nursing relationship with your baby in a stress free environment.

What does a doula do?

I offer support and guidance to the new mother. As a new mother, you will benefit

greatly from the emotional support as you learn to care for your newborn.

You will be more relaxed and sure of yourself as your questions are answered

immediately by an experienced and knowledgeable doula. You will have time to rest,

shower and eat. I also help care for any siblings in the home, I do errands,

light household tasks and cook, if there is time, as your nutritional needs are very

important at this time of healing.

How often do you visit and how long do you stay?

Each woman has different needs and therefore a customized schedule is created for each

client.  The postpartum period is approximately six weeks. You may need daily visits

the first month or two and in the following weeks your needs will change again. I have

been with clients as few as two weeks and as long as one year.

My goal is for you to heal quickly, so you no longer need my care.
